• Biden pardons Thanksgiving turkeys: 'There's no "fowl" play'

President Biden pardoned turkeys Chocolate and Chip at a White House ceremony on Monday, Nov. 21, 2022. The broad-breasted white turkeys, weighing in at 46 and 47 pounds, respectively, were raised by National Turkey Federation chairman Ronnie Parker at Circle S Ranch in Monroe, N.C. Chocolate's and Chips' plans include earning an honorary poultry science degree from N.C. State University. The Tar Heel state ranks first in the nation for poultry production and second for turkey production.

"We can't forget the reason for Thanksgiving in the first place," Biden said at the event. "That's what the Thanksgiving tradition is all about, being grateful for what we have," Biden said as he reflected on being grateful for the medical community and COVID-19 vaccines to enable Americans to gather safely this year.

  • Why Americans Wait So Long For Organs

There are more than 100,000 people in the United States waiting for an organ transplant, and they could be waiting a while. A little more than 50% of people waiting for an organ will receive one within five years because of the shortage of organs available.

The organ donation system in the U.S. is designed to save as many lives as possible without wasting available organs, but there are built-in inequalities that affect who has access. People of color, people of lower socioeconomic status and women receive transplants at a lower rate and are also more likely to wait longer for an organ than patients with similar medical issues.

The medical community has been working on ways to increase the supply by using live donors for organs like kidneys, organs from animals and even mechanical organs. Watch the video above to learn how the U.S. organ transplant system works and what we can do to increase supply while decreasing inequality.

  • How Elon Musk Became The Richest Person In America In 2022 | Forbes

Elon Musk couldn’t help but gloat. Last September, the day Musk overtook Amazon’s Jeff Bezos to become the richest person in the world, Forbes reached out to the man behind Tesla and SpaceX for his thoughts.

“I’m sending a giant statue of the digit ‘2’ to Jeffrey B.,” Musk wrote in a short email, “along with a silver medal.”

The swap at the top came 24 days after last year’s Forbes 400 ranking of the wealthiest Americans was finalized on September 3, 2021 and now, one wild year later, Musk can finally claim his gold: He is No. 1 on The Forbes 400 for the first time this year, with an estimated net worth of $251 billion–$60.5 billion more than he had on last year’s ranking and $100 billion richer than Bezos. That’s also a record for No. 1 on The Forbes 400.

The Forbes 400 is our annual ranking of the richest Americans. Our estimates are a snapshot of each member’s wealth as of September 2, 2022. For a detailed methodology and an explanation of our philanthropy score and self-made score, please see forbes.com/forbes-400.
