  • AMG SL 55 v 911 GTS: Which is best?

But what happens if you’re in the market for one and can’t decide which to choose? Well, Mat’s here to help you make that decision!

So let’s see how the two compare, starting with the design. The new SL 55 rolls up with a super aggressive front end, with a big AMG grille straddling the centre with big air vents on either side. It’s a bit tamer around the back, but at least you get quad-tailpipes with it. As for the Porsche, it has the traditional sloping bonnet up front for that classic 911 look. The rear end’s a bit large, but that’s what you expect when you choose a convertible.

One thing these cars both have in common is the quality of the interior. The AMG comes with its customary jet engine-style air vents, good-quality materials throughout, as well as a huge infotainment screen in the centre. You’ll also find carbon fibre trim on the centre console. As for the Porsche, it’s also made with high-quality materials throughout, and in our opinion has a slightly better build quality. The dials also look absolutely gorgeous!

But of course, it’s not all about style… Sports cars need to have performance, and neither of these cars is lacking in that department! The Porsche is powered by a 3-litre twin-turbo flat-six that can deliver 480hp and 570Nm of torque. As for the AMG, it’s housing a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 under the bonnet that can deliver 476hp and 700Nm. However, whereas the Porsche only drives the rear wheels, the AMG sends power to all four!

When it comes to the price, the Porsche comes in at just under £125,000, although if you spend £6,000 more you can get it with AWD. As for the AMG, it’s a whole lot more expensive, coming in at over £147,000!

So is it worth splashing more cash on the AMG? You’ll need to stick with Mat and see for yourself!

  • Why don’t we cover the desert with solar panels? - Dan Kwartler

Explore what would happen if we covered the Sahara Desert in solar panels, and the possibility of it solving our energy crisis.

    --

Stretching over roughly nine million square kilometers and with sands reaching temperatures of up to 80° Celsius, the Sahara Desert receives about 22 million terawatt hours of energy from the Sun every year. That’s well over 100 times more energy than humanity consumes annually. So, could covering the desert with solar panels solve our energy problems? Dan Kwartler digs into the possibility.

Lesson by Dan Kwartler, directed by Christoph Sarow, AIM Creative Studios.

  • The 4 phases of retirement | Dr. Riley Moynes | TEDxSurrey

Imagine squeezing all the juice out of retirement! When interviewed on his research, Dr. Riley Moynes commented, “I wish I knew then what I know now about the psychological challenges that accompany retirement. It would have made things much clearer and easier.”

By interviewing hundreds of retirees, he has discovered a framework that can help make more sense of this challenging chapter of our lives…one that, for many, could last for 30 years or more.
If you’re retired, this talk will make things much clearer for you. If you’re not, you’ll have a better idea of what to expect when that time comes. Riley has enjoyed a distinguished career spanning four decades in both public and private sectors.

In public education, he served as a teacher, Department Head, a Superintendent and a Director of Education. He also authored several textbooks including a History of Russia, and a World Religions text.

In the private sector, he was a Founding Partner of a national wealth management firm, author of a book entitled The Money Coach which enjoyed sales of over 200,000 copies in six editions, and co-author of several editions of Top Funds.

Since stepping back from day-to-day involvement in financial services, Riley researches and writes reader-friendly publications on topics of general interest, and presents Workshops across the country based on those publications.

One of his most recent books, The Four Phases of Retirement, became a Canadian best-seller within 12 months of publication, and is the basis of his TEDx Talk.

In the book, he explains how he waltzed through Phase One of retirement, struggled in Phase Two, tried a dozen ventures in Phase Three and now in Phase Four, assists others as they navigate their way through the psychological changes and challenges almost everyone faces in retirement. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx

  • Attention Is Important | Get It At All Costs ©

Attention is something we all seek in some shape or form. And it is something we give others in order to make that essential connection with them. So when thinking about attention, we need to think about relationships, our desire to connect and to be connected to people, but also to things, and places

    Gary Vaynerchuk:
"The currency of business IS attention"
    "Attention is THE asset "
    "Go WHERE the attention is"

Gary Vaynerchuk builds businesses. Fresh out of college he took his family wine business and grew it from a $3M to a $60M business in just five years by bringing it online. Its success made him a social media marketing guru – which then led to a 10-book deal with HarperStudio. Now he runs VaynerMedia, a digital agency he launched in 2009 that advises the likes of GE and PepsiCo and has grown to over 500 employees.. Along the way he became a prolific angel investor and venture capitalist, investing in companies like Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Uber, and Birchbox before eventually co-founding VaynerRSE, an angel fund.

Law 6: Court Attention At All Costs
Everything is judged by its appearance: what is unseen counts for nothing. Never let yourself get lost in the crowd, then, or buried in oblivion. Stand out. Be conspicuous, at all cost. Make yourself a magnet of attention by appearing larger, more colorful, more mysterious than the bland and timid masses.”
